Kalima Tribal Belly Dance offers classes in Tribal Style Belly Dance.  Started in June 2008, Kalima offered the first classes of any kind to be offered at the newly formed Looking Glass Artist Collective.  The first class met once a week and had about three students.  Since then class have grown to four one hour classes each week at the LGAC in Salisbury, NC and one class each week in Concord, NC.

Kalima began dancing in 2002, inspired by seeing Baraka Mundi perform at the Lake Eden Arts Festival.  She studied first with Nadirah, in Salisbury, NC, then with Nayna at Lotus Studios in Charlotte.  Over the years she took numerous workshops with well know teachers such as Paulette Rhys-Denis, Zoe Jakes, Ava Fleming, Tempest, Samantah Riggs, Zafira Dance Company, Kami Liddle, Jill Parker, and may others.  She recieved her ATS General Skills Certification from Carolena Nericcio in October 2007.

Kalima's classes focus on group improvisation dance.  As a solo performer she dances a tribal fusion style with elements of gypsy flair, and gothic darkness.  She has also studied fire performing and loves to light of the night with flaming fans, staff, and sword.

From her years in community theatre Kalima brings a love of costuming.  She taught costuming classes at Triboriginal in 2009, and offers costuming workshops throughout the year in her own program.  Recently she has begun making and selling hand made belly dance bras, belts and headpieces.  Her work will be for sale at Tribalcon in February of 2010.

Kalima dances because it fills her life with joy.  She teaches and performs to share that joy.  Come join us for class, workshop, or performanes.
